Remarks: The original 西湖小吃 can still be found at Farrer road where it has been since...dunno when..but very long lah...Farrer road was where i spent most of my childhood and this modest eatery at its heyday was virtually packed to the brim everyday. I remember watching Jaws in this big open space right outside the restoran where the screen was created by draping a big piece of cloth outside a block of flats. Heavenly smells from the restoran would waft occasionally in the air and I would cast lustful looks at the restaurant, whilst Jaws was tearing up a helpless man into pieces...
All that buzz is gone now...like all old estates...most familiar shops have closed down or moved on...I remember that aquariam i visited almost everyday after school, the provision shop that i would get my daily dose of Kaka (20 cents) and Xiao Ding Dang (50 cents) chocolates, and the bookshop where me and my brother were accused of stealing an eraser...all that just a distant memory now.
